Pittsburgh facing Buffalo, above, in the first ever Winter Classic played in New York State.

With Mets Owner Fred Wilpon hard selling the league on a Winter Classic at Citifield that would include the Rangers, and possibly the Islanders, it seems there is a good chance that the Rangers will play their first ever game in Queens.

Should the Islanders not be considered the national draw the league needs in the annual January 1st game, there is talk, as we mentioned here last month, that the Capitals and Alex Ovechkin would play the Rangers in the NHL’s most marquee regular season match.
