Javier Vazquez, our favorite Yankees whipping boy, deserves credit last night for his best performance of the season against the cross town Mets. Vazquez did not allow a hit until the 5th inning, and he even laid down a very nice scarafice bunt. He was removed from the game only because he developed a blister on his pitching finger. Vazquez looked very comfortable in the spacious Citi-field against a national league team, but he has always been a better warm weather guy. Let’s hope Vazquez, who has now given up only 2 runs in his 13 1/3 innings, is righting himself. He improved his record to 3-4 and his E.R.A. to 6.69.
