New York Mets

The Twins were partying at the plate last night, as they waxed the Yanks 8-2, but the loss wasn’t all Vazquez.  Just mostly.  The pitcher gave up 5 runs in 5.2 innings, but seemed proud of himself, for “battling.”

Though Vazquez developed a blister on his pitching finger in last week’s victory over the Mets at Citi-field, he was pronounced healthy, he declared himself healthy…he just pitched poorly.

He now sports a 3-5 record and a 6.86 E.R.A., and the Yankees, who were once 22-8, are now 28-19.  Very poor.

Javier Vazquez, our favorite Yankees whipping boy, deserves credit last night for his best performance of the season against the cross town Mets.  Vazquez did not allow a hit until the 5th inning, and he even laid down a very nice scarafice bunt.  He was removed from the game only because he developed a blister on his pitching finger.  Vazquez looked very comfortable in the spacious Citi-field against a national league team, but he has always been a better warm weather guy.  Let’s hope Vazquez, who has now given up only 2 runs in his 13 1/3 innings, is righting himself.   He improved his record to 3-4 and his E.R.A. to 6.69.  Take a look at the Yankees pitching performances below.

Javier Vazquez, credited with a win in relief Monday against the Red Sox out of the bullpen, will return to the starting rotation tonight in the Yankees first inter-league game against the junior varsity: the New York Mets.

Vazquez, who has now improved his record to 2-4 and his E.R.A. to 8.01, will be opposed by Hisanori Takahashi, who the Yankees have never before faced.

This is a huge series for both teams.  The Yanks have lost 3 straight and the Mets have lost 9 of their last 11 games.
